Show Them You're Blooming

Show Them You’re Blooming!

There’s something special about this time of year. The dark, dreary days of winter are giving way to longer stretches of sun. Flowers are budding, and many of my favorite annuals are starting to bloom. It’s a season of fresh beginnings.

Here in Texas, we know the heat is just around the corner, so I’m soaking up every moment of these beautiful, mild-weather days.

Most of all—I’m enjoying the blooms.

On January 6th, I hired a coach and made a serious commitment to take care of my health again. After great progress in 2022, the weight had crept back on, and I knew it was time for a reset—one that would help me create lasting change.

Weight has been a challenge throughout my adult life. In my 20s, 30s, and early 40s, I was a runner—working with trainers and staying active to fight the obesity that runs in my DNA. But after my fourth child at 42, things got harder. My energy waned. My mindset shifted. I started believing lies:

“You’re destined to be fat.”

“You’re too old now.”

“You can’t keep this up.”

Add to that the pain of losing over 40 pounds in both 2016 and 2022—only to be sidelined by diverticulitis and, in 2017, a major surgery to remove part of my colon. It left me fearful. Discouraged. Tired.

But this year, our theme is “It’s Showtime.” And I knew I couldn’t truly show up in my life if I wasn’t taking care of the one body I’ve been given.

In the first quarter of this new program, I’ve lost a significant number on the scale. But more importantly, I’m regaining energy and confidence. I’ve been extending grace to myself, embracing the process as a lifestyle—not a quick fix. We’re not eating out as much, grocery shopping regularly and food prepping weekly. I’m working on my mindset. I’m changing from the inside out.

Another key difference this time? Walking.

My coach challenged me to take 3–6 “slow burn” walks a week—45 to 90 minutes each, keeping my heart rate in a fat-burning zone. At first, it was hard. I used to hate walking. It felt too slow.

But now? I crave it.

These walks have transformed me. I’ve noticed trails near sports practices I never saw before. Instead of driving home or sitting in my car, I walk. I explore. I breathe. I take in the blooms. And with every step, I feel a little more connected to the world around me.

This April, I hope you take time to care for your body, refresh your mindset, and most of all—notice the blooms.

Prepare for Easter with prayer.

Make space for the season.

Let the beauty around you bring healing within.

May you show others how you’re blooming too as you rest in the care of the great, loving Father who created so much on earth for us to enjoy!

April blessings!!!
