“You’ve got to accentuate the positive. Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative. Don’t mess with Mister In-Between.”
So many of us go through life working to obtain the external factors of success: earning money, buying a new home, building a great business, etc. However, those who earn the best rewards (peace, joy, and love) have the healthiest minds.
Vain Imaginations and Limiting Beliefs
Too many times our minds are filled with vain imaginations, worry, fear, or negative self-talk. Vain imaginations are thoughts about ourselves or about what others think of us. These thoughts can become strongholds and idols if we are not careful. They can limit our ability to think clearly about a situation and create open doors for deception. Thoughts full of worry, fear, or negativity will also limit us from doing all we are meant to do. We wouldn't allow someone to throw garbage in the middle of our home, would we? Then why would we do that to our own minds?
Take out Negative, Put in Positive
Rather than thinking on those things (whether we are good enough, have what it takes, what others think, how we can never do something, if we have enough resources, etc.), we need to renew our minds daily, and sometimes hourly, by replacing that mindless chatter with pure and positive self-talk.
What are you listening to each day?
What is your self-talk?
What words are you speaking?
I like to listen to podcasts, learning CD's, sermons, and more. I find that when I hear positive words, they add another dimension to reading them. While reading engages our intellect, listening aligns our emotions. Both are vital to the process of renewing our mind.
When I miss this type of encouragement, I literally crave it. It's as though my mind knows when it needs it.
